Kill Boring Dead launches creator-led TikTok campaign for Cathay Pacific
Kill Boring Dead's first Cathay Pacific campaign swaps airline ads for creator-led TikTok storytelling at scale

Social-first agency Kill Boring Dead (KBD) has launched its first campaign for Cathay Pacific since being appointed as the airline’s TikTok-native creative partner earlier this year, with a creator-led strategy aimed at younger affluent travellers.
The campaign, built around the platform idea “OMG, I’ve got to tell you about my flight,” marks a shift away from traditional airline advertising in favour of TikTok-native storytelling and user-led content.
Rather than relying on polished brand messaging, the work features nano creators and real Cathay Pacific passengers sharing first-person experiences through FaceTime-style conversations, post-flight debriefs, direct-to-camera testimonials and at-home recaps.

A social-first approach
KBD Co-Founder and CEO Marcus Willis said the campaign was designed to let customers become the storytellers.
“Airlines have spent decades telling people their flights are amazing. We wanted to do the opposite: build something that lets real Cathay Pacific travellers tell their own flight stories, in their own words, the way people actually share them on TikTok.
“This is the kind of work we live for: brave, simple ideas that trust real people more than they trust polished advertising. That’s how brands actually move culture, not just buy attention in it,” Willis concluded.
The campaign reflects a broader trend among brands seeking to create content that feels native to social platforms rather than adapted from traditional advertising formats.

Reaching a new generation of travellers
Kelly Arnison, Travel Marketing Manager, Oceania at Cathay Pacific, said the strategy was designed to connect with younger premium travellers through more authentic content experiences.
“We know younger travellers are incredibly discerning when it comes to the content they engage with, particularly on platforms like TikTok,” Arnison said.
“KBD understood from the outset that this audience doesn’t want traditional airline advertising. They want to hear genuine experiences from real people in formats that feel honest, entertaining and relatable. The campaign captures the premium Cathay Pacific experience in a way that feels culturally relevant while staying true to our brand.”

Part of an always-on social strategy
Led from KBD’s Melbourne office, the campaign forms part of Cathay Pacific’s broader always-on paid social program across TikTok and Meta. KBD’s remit spans creative strategy, creator management, content production, optimisation and ongoing creative testing, while Spark Foundry manages paid media strategy, buying and performance reporting.
The campaign is the first major work to emerge from the partnership between Cathay Pacific and KBD following the agency’s appointment through a competitive pitch process earlier this year.
