Nine has announced the launch of a new bureau in Washington D.C., significantly enhancing its international news operations. Located just 300 metres from the White House, the new bureau will enable direct and timely reporting from the heart of U.S. political activity.
The opening comes amid heightened global tensions and major political developments following a recent U.S. election. Nine’s expanded presence is positioned to deliver comprehensive coverage for Australian audiences during a critical period in international affairs.
The Washington bureau complements Nine’s long-standing Los Angeles operation, which has been active for more than four decades. Together, these U.S. hubs support news programming across Nine’s platforms, including 9News, 60 Minutes, A Current Affair, Today, and its digital and social media channels.
Fiona Dear, Director of News and Current Affairs at Nine, said the expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to international journalism. “This expansion takes our viewers to the doorstep of the White House and offers a front-row seat to the news and decision-making that is increasingly shaping our lives back home,” she said.
Lauren Tomasi has been appointed as the new Washington Correspondent. An experienced journalist, Tomasi previously reported from Los Angeles and has covered a range of major stories, including U.S. elections, mass shootings, and natural disasters.
The Washington D.C. bureau is scheduled to begin operations later this month.
