Reports: Nine to axe Eddie McGuire’s Footy Classified edition

Nine is reportedly planning to axe the Tuesday edition of Footy Classified, hosted by Eddie McGuire, as part of changes to its AFL programming in 2027.

According to several outlets, including Code Sports, the Monday edition would remain, while Nine would expand Footy Furnace as it shifts more focus to digital platforms.

The proposed changes remain unconfirmed for now. Mediaweek has reached out to Channel Nine for comment.

Footy Furnace reportedly set to expand

The report suggests Footy Furnace, hosted by Jimmy Bartel and James Hird, would expand to Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

The late-night review program brought Hird back to television before he also joined McGuire on Tuesday’s Footy Classified. McGuire’s JAM TV produces both programs.

McGuire would reportedly remain involved in Nine’s football coverage and work on special events, though details of that role are unconfirmed.

Footy Classified launched in 2007 after being commissioned during McGuire’s tenure as Nine chief executive. Its original panel included Craig Hutchison and Caroline Wilson, who later moved to Seven to join The Agenda Setters alongside Kane Cornes.
