Hindi and Mandarin commentary coming to AFL on Kayo Sports

Fox Footy and Kayo Sports are expanding their AFL offering with alternate language commentary in Hindi and Mandarin for two key matches across Rounds 21 and 22.

Fox Footy and Kayo Sports will offer alternate Hindi and Mandarin commentary for two upcoming AFL matches in August, as part of a wider push to engage multicultural audiences.

Round 21’s clash between the Western Bulldogs and GWS Giants (Thursday, 1 August) will feature a dedicated Hindi feed, called by Rajbir Ghuman and Harbir Singh Kang. Round 22’s rematch between the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans (Saturday, 9 August) will include a Mandarin feed, voiced by Agnes Yao Lu and Barney Yu Xia.

Both broadcasts will also feature in-language graphics and production, and will be available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel channels 507 (Hindi) and 505 (Mandarin).

Each of the four commentators has previous AFL experience via the National Ethnic & Multicultural Broadcasters Council (NEMBC), and are passionate fans of the game since arriving in Australia.

The initiative is aligned with Kayo Sports’ strategy to broaden access and inclusivity. It also forms part of the AFL’s Cultural Heritage Series, which recognises the diversity of its players, fans and communities. Two AFLW matches will also receive alternate language coverage later in the season, with details to be announced.

Michael Neill, General Manager of Fox Footy, said: “We’re excited to bring the Hindi and Mandarin language feeds to life across Kayo Sports and Foxtel and share our great game with a whole new audience.”

“Raj, Harbir, Agnes and Barney will bring a unique energy and passion to the broadcast, supported by a team of Hindi and Mandarin speaking production crew. We know these audiences will love their calls!”
