While details of his new role at Melbourne have not been formally outlined, the move signals a strategic pivot by the club as it looks to bolster its executive ranks.

The appointment comes against a backdrop of instability at Melbourne, following the recent leadership developments involving CEO Paul Guerra.

In comments to Nine, Guerra said he was blindsided by the board’s decision and confirmed he had sought legal advice.

“It’s been a challenging day. I’m puzzled by the decision made by the board today,” he said.

“I’m really proud of the team that we’ve put together in a really short period of time, and I’m really proud of the role that I’ve played in the success of the club.

“I have engaged lawyers, and there’s not much more I can say at this point.”
