TV Ratings September 24, 2022: Viewers follow the football, Seven in afternoon and Nine at night

Nine enjoyed a Saturday night win with a network share of 36.1%, a primary channel share of 25.5%, and a multichannel win on 9Gem with 4.2%.

Earlier in the day, The AFL grand final between Geelong and Sydney pulled in some massive numbers for Seven. 2,179,000 people tuned in to watch the Geelong Cats win the 2022 AFL premiership after defeating the Sydney Swans by 81 points at the MCG. Additionally, 1,066,000 Melbourne fans watched on as the Cats took the biggest win in grand final history with 20.13 (133) to 8.4 (52). 

The AFL coverage didn’t stop there. 1,771,000 people tuned in for the grand final presentations followed by On The Ground, which clocked 1,686,000. Seven carried its afternoon AFL success into the night with 7News bringing in 1,156,000 views.

With Seven taking out the top four spots, Nine’s Rugby League Final series claimed the fifth spot reaching 748,000 people. The preliminary finals, which saw the Panthers defeat the Rabbitohs to win 32-12 clocked 414,000 Sydney views, followed by the pre-match coverage with 443,000 views and post-match coverage with 404,000 people tuning in. Additionally, game 2 of the Bledisloe Cup brought in 197,000 views as the Wallabies suffered a 40-14 loss.

On ABC, a repeat of Death in Paradise was the network’s most-watched program, clocking 312,000 views. In the episode, DI Jack Mooney and the team were mystified when Catrina McVey, the presenter of the TV holiday program Hot Shots, was found washed up on the shore near her Paradise Bay hotel.

A repeat of The Dog House was the most-watched non-news program on 10, bringing in 196,000 people.

On SBS, a repeat of Then and Now: Heathrow Airport was the most-watch program with 105,000 views.

Fox League has enjoyed a Saturday win, taking out the top two spots on subscription TV. The Preliminary Finals between Panthers and Rabbitohs came first with 393,000 views, followed by NRL Super Saturday with 208,000 viewers.

Over on Fox Footy, AFL: Longest Kick clocked 145,000 views, followed by Grand Final Day on Fox with 100,000.
