Independently-produced TV drama The Chosen will return for season 5 on 13 July in Australia, streaming on the Amazon-owned Prime Video. The season is titled ‘The Chosen: Last Supper.’

A trailer was released today by Prime Video:

The eight-episode season will be released across three weeks with episode releases echoing a similar roll-out in US cinemas earlier this year. Episodes 1-2 will be available on 13 July, with episodes 3-5 on 20 July, and the episodes 6-8 on 27 July.

The previous four seasons are streaming now on Prime Video, but are also available on the official Chosen website.

As an independent, faith-based production, much of the funding for the series has been crowd-sourced. With a self-reported audience of over 100 million people globally (verified by an independent consultant), the show has year-on-year built a strong following.

It has proven a lucrative project, with the recent cinema release, spread across three weeks, generating over US$110 million in ticket sales.

Despite this season being focused on the Last Supper, there are two more seasons planned with more story to tell. That may sound like a spoiler, but keep in mind that it is based on a very popular book.

In addition to the upcoming two seasons, series creator Dallas Jenkins and production company 5&2 Productions have plans for further series building off the popularity of The Chosen. Animated series ‘The Chosen Adventures‘ is set to debut later this year, The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls will pair the reality show star with actors from The Chosen, and there are three further spin-off drama series planned. One is a planned three-season prequel based on Moses, another is a limited series about Joseph, and then there will be a sequel series to The Chosen focused on Paul and the apostles.

That’s a lot of TV.
