The Australian relaunches travel coverage with new Travel + Luxury Weekend liftout
Michelle Gunn: "Travel + Luxury and Travel reimagined will bring The Australian’s authority, curiosity, and commitment to the contest of ideas to a category our readers are deeply passionate about."

The Australian will launch the first phase of its revamped travel coverage on Saturday, October 17th, with a redesigned Travel + Luxury Weekend liftout in The Weekend Australian, alongside a new Travel website section and social presence.
Over the coming months, the masthead will extend its travel coverage across digital, video, a bi-monthly glossy magazine, weekly print, newsletters, social and The Australian app, under the Travel + Luxury and Travel brands.
It will also build out its audience experience and commercial offering across those platforms. The changes follow other recent section launches across the brand.
Michelle Gunn, The Australian Editor-in-Chief, said: “Our successful launches of Health & Wellbeing, Wealth and Culture have shown the power of audience-led, digital-first journalism at The Australian. Travel is the natural next frontier. It sits at the intersection of so many of the big ideas shaping our world, from culture and community to aviation, cities, technology and the global economy.
“Travel + Luxury and Travel reimagined will bring The Australian’s authority, curiosity and commitment to the contest of ideas to a category our readers are deeply passionate about. We want to challenge them, inform them and inspire them to discover what is next and where to go next.”

The new look will apply across all channels. Content will include advice from industry leaders, expert reviews, recommendations, opinion columns and long-form stories, drawing on The Australian’s global network of journalists, including aviation writer Robyn Ironside.
Kerrie McCallum, News Australia Head of Travel, said: “Luxury today isn’t just about the location, it’s defined by substance, time, craft and perspective.
"With a spotlight on remarkable journeys, exclusive access and up-to-the-minute coverage across key passion points including food, wellness, cruising, sport and adventure, our new Travel + Luxury platform offers an extraordinary world, expertly curated to help audiences imagine and explore long before their journey begins.”
The offering sits within News Australia’s Travel Network, which reaches more than 6 million Australians monthly alongside Escape, delicious. and news.com.au. News Australia is pitching advertisers an affluent audience of travellers, with commercial opportunities built around editorial tentpoles and themes through the year.
Emily Ross, News Australia Client Partnerships National Head of Travel, said: “Premium and luxury travel is a resilient category, with spending continuing to grow despite broader economic uncertainties.
"Reimagining these platforms represents the pinnacle for luxury travel media in Australia and reflects the confidence we have in travel and the immense potential of this highly valuable audience for our commercial partners.”
