NOVA brings eight MediaWorks stations to Australian listeners

NOVA Entertainment has added eight New Zealand radio stations to its streaming apps under a partnership with MediaWorks.

Australian listeners can now stream The Rock, Channel X, George FM, Magic, Mai FM, More FM, The Edge and The Sound through NOVA’s Player apps. The Rock is also available on DAB+ in Brisbane and Melbourne.

The Rock leads the launch

NOVA Entertainment chief growth officer Adam Johnson said: “MediaWorks brings a brilliant portfolio of distinctive brands with deeply engaged audiences, so we’re delighted to be able to bring them to even more listeners in Australia on our own platforms and on DAB+.

“Our early data suggests there is a huge appetite for New Zealand content, with The Rock 2000 Countdown currently leading the charge. This partnership adds to the already stellar partner line-up we’re proud to deliver on NOVA’s streaming network, joining brands such as News24, FoxSports News and talkSPORT from the UK.”

MediaWorks director of content Leon Wratt said, “There has always been a huge appetite for our stable of radio brands, particularly given the number of New Zealanders living in Australia. With this partnership, we’re solidifying our commitment to giving Australian audiences access to a range of our stations, all easily accessible across NOVA’s platforms including the Nova Player.”

The deal gives MediaWorks a route to Australian listeners, including New Zealanders living here, while expanding the range of stations available through NOVA’s apps.

The launch coincides with The Rock 2000, the station’s annual song countdown. It finishes with The Rock 2000 Live in Auckland on 25 September. 

Australian band The Living End is among the performers, with the top 20 songs to be revealed on stage.
