Budget Direct has launched Splashdown, a new campaign that parodies celebrity space tourism by sending a glamorous crew crashing into a suburban pool party.

Created with long-term agency partner 303, the campaign is the latest instalment in Budget Direct’s Insurance Solved brand platform. It launches across television and radio today, before expanding into cinema, streaming, social media and out of home.

Celebrity space travel meets suburban chaos

The hero film follows a group of celebrity space tourists whose return to Earth goes off course. Their capsule lands in the middle of a backyard gathering, disrupting the party amid selfies, confusion and damage.

Budget Direct characters Sarge and his team arrive to reassure the homeowners that their insurance has them covered. The campaign also promotes the insurer’s recognition as Money Magazine’s Insurer of the Year for 10 consecutive years.

Jonathan Kerr, chief growth officer at Budget Direct, said the campaign was designed to extend the brand’s reach while bringing its insurance proposition to life.

“Our goal with ‘Splashdown’ is to better engage with more Australians, bringing our Insurance Solved proposition to life for them, in more engaging and innovative ways. That means highlighting our incredible 10-year run as Money Magazine's Insurer of the Year, our commitment to outstanding service and support, and the real value we deliver.

“We also wanted to extend the campaign's reach into the social media world and engage with those audiences in an impactful and entertaining way. We thought recent celebrity space missions were such an iconic cultural flashpoint that was perfect to have some fun with.”

Nikki Osborne appears in the campaign, leaning into its send-up of celebrity culture. Budget Direct said her humour and willingness to laugh at herself helped bring the concept to life for her audience of more than 500,000 followers.

“Finding the right cast to lean into the joke was key and collaborating with Nikki Osborne has really brought the idea to life. Her quirky humour and ability to laugh at herself has captured the campaign's satirical tone, and brought her 500,000+ followers along for the ride,” Kerr said.

303 builds on the Insurance Solved platform

Bart Pawlak, chief creative officer at 303, said the creative continues Budget Direct’s approach of drawing on recognisable cultural moments.

“Budget Direct’s commitment to culturally engaging campaigns has seen it emerge as one of the country’s most recognised brand platforms.

“We’ve loved partnering with the team over the long-term to find new and unique ways to build on that brand equity. It’s one of the many reasons the effectiveness award-winning Insurance Solved platform continues to drive such outstanding results.”

Budget Direct was also named Australia’s favourite advertisement by TRA in 2026.

Campaign rollout

Splashdown launches across television and radio on 3 August 2026. It will also run across cinema, BVOD, SVOD, social media and out of home.

Additional digital and social content will expand the fictional space mission’s storyline and target audiences beyond the campaign’s traditional mass-reach media channels.
