Budget Direct makes history with insurer of the year grand slam

No other Australian insurer has previously held all four awards concurrently.

Budget Direct has just made Australian insurance history.

It’s the first insurer to be simultaneously named Australian Insurer of the Year by four major independent consumer advocacy groups.

In an unprecedented result, Budget Direct was crowned Insurer of the Year by Canstar, Money Magazine, Finder and WeMoney, securing what the industry is calling an Insurance Grand Slam.

No other Australian insurer has previously held all four awards concurrently.

Canstar extends five-year winning streak

Canstar awarded Budget Direct its 2026 Insurer of the Year title after assessing car and home insurance policies across major brands including AAMI, Bingle, GIO, Suncorp Insurance, NRMA Insurance, QBE Insurance and Youi.

The award marked Budget Direct’s fifth consecutive win.

“Budget Direct performed consistently well in both Car and Home & Contents Insurance,” Canstar noted.

“It continues to provide outstanding value to consumers with competitive pricing and a high level of cover. Budget Direct achieved market-leading performance for Car Insurance in multiple states and a strong performance in Home & Contents Package profiles.”

Record ninth year recognised by Money Magazine

When Money Magazine selected its most recent Insurer of the Year, it assessed pricing competitiveness alongside broader measures including corporate strength, customer engagement and claims reliability.

For a record ninth year in a row, Money Magazine selected Budget Direct as its Insurer of the Year, reinforcing the brand’s long-term consistency across both pricing and customer outcomes.

Finder and WeMoney highlight value and digital performance

Finder, which reviewed car and home insurance providers across the Australian market, named Budget Direct its 2026 Insurer of the Year.

“Budget Direct scooped the Insurer Of The Year crown with a strong performance across multiple categories for pricing, features and customer service,” Finder said.

Meanwhile, WeMoney named Budget Direct its 2025 Insurer of the Year, with founder and CEO Dan Jovevski saying:

“These awards spotlight the insurers who are truly putting Australians first by delivering exceptional value, service, and digital innovation.”

‘A direct testament to daily focus on value’

Budget Direct chief growth officer Jonathan Kerr said the grand slam result was a milestone moment for the business.

“This level of recognition from four of the leading independent consumer advocate groups, is a tremendous honour and a direct testament to our daily focus on delivering outstanding value to our customers through innovation, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction,” Kerr said.

“We are delighted that when four independent rating groups, using four different methodologies, answered the question, who is their current Australia’s Insurer Of The Year?, they all landed on the same answer, and that was Budget Direct.”
