Australian Open On Court Looks To Debut On Melbourne Fashion Week Runway

Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) will host a free Australian Open-themed runway show at City Square at 6pm on Saturday, October 24th.

This is the first time the tournament’s on-court style has been on the M/FW runway.

Called The AO Edit, the show is presented by the Australian Open and styled by Jade Leung. It will preview AO27 style, including Tennis Australia’s lifestyle range, items from Australian Open partner New Balance and a first look at the BOSS ballkid uniforms.

The runway will also show umpire and ballkid uniforms, AO blue performance wear and courtside pieces. Models and dancers will take part in the show at the newly revamped City Square in Melbourne’s CBD.

The AO Edit will close out a day of M/FW runways at City Square, following Street Style at 2pm and After Hours at 4pm. Both feature Melbourne designers and retailers.

M/FW runs from Monday, October 19th to Sunday, October 25th, with more than 100 free and ticketed events featuring over 300 designers and retailers.

Serving Australian Open in style

Lord Mayor Nick Reece said: “Just when you thought Melbourne Fashion Week couldn't serve up anything more, it delivers an ace.”

“The AO Edit brings together two of Melbourne's most iconic events, giving audiences an exclusive first look at Australian Open style while celebrating the city's reputation as Australia's sporting and fashion capital.”

Mark Scott, Tourism and Events portfolio head Councillor, said: “Melbourne Fashion Week brings more than 100,000 people into the city every year – and we're hoping that number will only grow as we present another free runway that's open to all.”

Billie Spence, Tennis Australia Merchandise & Licensing Manager, said: “Melbourne is Australia's sporting and fashion capital, so bringing those two worlds together for the first time at Melbourne Fashion Week feels like a natural fit.”

"The runway will highlight how fashion has become an integral part of major sporting events and showcase the creativity, innovation and style that sit at the heart of the Australian Open brand."
