Callum Turner has been named the next James Bond by Roger Friedman, the entertainment reporter who previously broke the news of Daniel Craig’s casting, though Amazon MGM Studios has not confirmed its new 007.

But look, a scoop is a scoop is a scoop.

Writing for Showbiz411, Friedman said the British actor had secured the role, describing his information as “word on the street” without identifying a source or providing confirmation from the studio.

The report adds to speculation around one of Hollywood’s most closely watched casting decisions as Amazon MGM prepares its first Bond film since Craig’s departure.

Friedman puts Turner in the frame

“Word on the street is that Callum Turner is the next James Bond,” Friedman wrote.

Friedman, who previously broke news of Craig’s casting, also questioned Australian actor Jacob Elordi’s suitability for the role. His comments reflect his assessment of the contenders rather than a stated position from the producers.

The latest claim follows reports that Turner and Jack Lowden were among the actors being considered for final screen tests. No official casting announcement has followed.

Why the casting matters

Celebrity reporter Rob Shuter discussed the importance of finding the right lead during an appearance on Maureen Callahan’s The Nerve.

“The Bond people know what their audience wants. And the reason it's taking so long to make this movie is that until they get the right Bond, there's no movie.”

Shuter argued that the role suited an actor audiences could encounter with fewer existing associations, allowing the character to take precedence over the performer’s public profile.

The decision will establish the face of the franchise’s next chapter following Craig’s final appearance in No Time to Die in 2021.

Amazon’s next Bond chapter

Denis Villeneuve will direct the next film, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing and Steven Knight writing the screenplay.

Amazon MGM’s published casting update says the search is underway and that it does not plan to comment on specific details during the process. Until the studio announces its lead, Turner’s casting remains unconfirmed.
