Radio Ratings: GfK Survey 4, 2019 – Sydney

• 2GB & smoothfm lead, 2Day breakfast tumbles

Biggest movers:
Up: 104.9 Triple M +0.5
Down: KIIS 106.5 -1.2

2GB 14.0%

It would be unwise to read too much into the drop in dayparts across the board. Alan Jones and the departing Chris Smith had the smallest falls, Ray Hadley the biggest. But all 2GB broadcasters remain #1 in their timeslots. Historically 14.0% remains a strong share for the station and better than anything it had in 2016 and 2017. People 55-64 actually grew this survey, up 2.3 to 19.7%.

smoothfm 95.3 9.9%

The station remains a clear FM leader despite share either falling or remaining steady in all dayparts. The movements weren’t massive though with breakfast dripping the most – down 0.7 to 6.8%. smoothfm now ranks #3 FM 40-54 and lost top spot 55-54 to WSFM.

KIIS 1065 8.1%

Despite a dip of 0.9 to 10.9%, breakfast with Kyle and Jackie O is the big story still at KIIS. Other dayparts dropped by bigger margins with morning down 1.8, afternoon 2.0 and drive with Will and Woody off 1.2. KIIS remains #1 18-24 and 25-39 but narrowed its lead over competitors.

WSFM 8.2%

The home of Jonesy and Amanda is now #2 FM after the drop at smoothfm. The J&A breakfast show remains #2 FM behind K&J despite slipping 0.3 to 8.5%.

Nova 96.9 7.5%

It has been an incredible survey for Nova stations right around Australia this survey, including the team in Sydney. Nova is #3 FM overall and in breakfast share. Nova Entertainment’s two Sydney stations both have cumes over 1m now and Fitzy and Wippa grew their breakfast cume, which is again well over half a million.

104.9 Triple M 6.0%

Station share and breakfast have been trending upward each survey this year since the arrival of The Moonman. Breakfast is now on 6.0% and the next target could be the station’s best breakfast share in the past 18 months – 6.6%. It was also a good survey for drive where Kennedy Molloy lifted 1.0 to 6.8%.

104.1 2Day FM 4.7%

Real shocker this survey with station share dropping back after five better surveys. Breakfast felt the pain too with share down 1.1 to 3.1%, it’s lowest since 2017 and maybe three breakfast shows ago.

2CH 1170 3.6%

Station share dipped slightly while breakfast was steady on 2.7%. Afternoon was down 0.9, while a small rise and fall in drive and evening were the only other changes. Share dipped 2.3 55-64, the same amount that it grew at 2GB.

Macquarie Sports 954 0.9%

Perhaps hard to believe, but this is the second-best result in 12 months. Breakfast was up to 1.0%, the best for six surveys.

Sky Sports Radio 0.6%

Slight correction after a couple of horror books. Breakfast is back to 1.0%, its best in seven surveys.
