Stan and ITV Studios have confirmed cameras are rolling on The Killings: Parrish Station, a new Stan Original series backed by Helium Pictures, Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
The crime drama stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Stan Original FING!) in a story that blends cold case investigation with elements of cosmic horror.
The series opens in 1987, with Detective Georgia Cooke (Wasikowska) investigating the massacre of four scientists at a remote research station.
Decades later, a new string of killings forces an older Georgia (Heather Mitchell) back into the case – one that continues to blur the lines between ritual, obsession and the occult.
Cast and creative team
The ensemble includes Xavier Samuel, Robert Taylor, Alan Dale, Emma Lung, Doris Younane, Kat Hoyos, Nic English, Alex Malone, Geoff Morrell, Rob Carlton, Alex Lee, Cameron James and newcomer Grace Owens.
The series is created and written by Ben Jenkins (The Chaser, The Checkout), with contributions from Tim Pye (Stan Original Bali 2002), Yolanda Ramke (Cargo), and Catherine Smyth-McMullen (The Sandman). Direction comes from Daniel Nettheim (The Tourist, The Assassin).
Behind the camera, Mark Fennessy executive produces for Helium alongside Stan’s Donna Chang and Andy Ryan. Kerrie Mainwaring serves as producer.
Industry perspectives
Nine’s Michael Healy described the project as “a striking addition to the Stan Originals slate, a bold and distinctive series that pushes the boundaries of Australian drama.”
Helium’s Mark Fennessy added: “We’re incredibly proud of this haunting and deeply human story – a gripping, time-spanning thriller with compelling female leads told across two timelines with the scale and suspense of True Detective and the bite of Yellowjackets.”
ITV Studios’ Julie Meldal-Johnsen praised the scripts as “smart, shocking, and suspenseful with raw human emotion,” while Screen Australia’s Louise Gough highlighted creator Ben Jenkins’ shift from comedy into drama, calling the story “propulsive and inherently bingeable.”
Screen NSW’s Kyas Hepworth noted the production will create 180 jobs in regional NSW and deliver “significant benefits” to local communities.
The series is financed by Screen Australia in association with Stan and supported by Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund. ITV Studios will distribute The Killings: Parrish Station internationally, with post, digital and visual effects supported by Screen NSW. Development received assistance from Screenwest and Screen NSW.
