Audible has announced an ambitious new audio adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, set to debut exclusively on its platform on 9 September 2025. The Audible Original, produced in collaboration with Brock Media, will feature localised versions in six languages—English, Castilian Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, each with an ensemble cast from the respective regions.
The stars
The English-language production stars BAFTA-winner Marisa Abela (Industry, Back to Black) as Elizabeth Bennet and BAFTA and BIFA nominee Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, The Iron Claw) as Mr. Darcy. This edition introduces a unique interior narrative from Elizabeth’s perspective, offering a fresh yet faithful take on Jane Austen’s classic.
Marisa Abela said, “Elizabeth Bennet is one of the most fiercely intelligent and iconic characters in literature… it feels both timeless and fresh.” Dickinson noted that the role gave him “a whole new appreciation” for the character and novel.
The supporting cast
Joining the leads are Will Poulter (Mr. Wickham), Jessie Buckley (Caroline Bingley), Glenn Close (Lady Catherine De Bourgh), and Bill Nighy (Mr. Bennet).
The Bennet family ensemble also includes Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Sophie Wilde, Antonia Salib, Patricia Allison, and Aasiya Shah. The adaptation is written by Lulu Raczka and directed by Dionne Edwards, marking her audio drama directorial debut.
Sound design and production
Karen Appathurai Wiggins, Head of Regional Content, APAC at Audible, commented, “Lulu Raczka’s script is thrilling… Abela and Dickinson’s chemistry as Elizabeth and Darcy is undeniable.”
The production features Dolby Atmos cinematic sound design by Brain Audio and an original score by Grammy-nominated composer Morgan Kibby. This release coincides with the 250th anniversary year of Jane Austen’s birth.
Pride and Prejudice joins Audible’s slate of acclaimed adaptations, including 1984 and The Mysterious Affair at Styles, positioning it as a major release in the company’s global audio content strategy.
