'I don't want to die': Kyle Sandilands reveals devastating brain aneurysm update

Kyle Sandilands has revealed his brain aneurysm has grown, admitting he fears he will eventually need surgery and describing the prospect as “terrifying”.

The radio host shared the update during an emotional episode of Building The Show, available through his subscription service Kyle Sandilands Live, which followed Sandilands as he attended a specialist appointment to determine whether the aneurysm had changed.

“It’s grown a little bit, which is great news. So I come out of the doctor's office, and unfortunately the aneurysm has gotten bigger. One millimetre bigger, which seems small, but I didn't want to get that,” Sandilands said.

“That was the last thing I wanted to hear. I was hoping, and in my mind I thought, oh, I've got this. I'm going to make it smaller.

“But it was bigger. Not big enough yet for them to operate. Not a good sign moving forward.”

‘That is terrifying to me’

Sandilands said the result had left him confronting the possibility that surgery may eventually become necessary.

“I feel that I'm going to have to get opened up at some stage. And that is terrifying to me,” he said.

“A life of bad choices has probably led me here, but I'm full of regret. And I do not want to die, and I do not want to be carved up.”

Sandilands first revealed diagnosis in 2025

Sandilands first publicly revealed his brain aneurysm diagnosis in February 2025, telling listeners of The Kyle and Jackie O Show that his medical team had initially warned him the condition required urgent attention.

“On Friday, I was told by my medical team, which sounds like I’m already very sick, to have a medical team, that I have a brain aneurysm and it requires immediate attention, brain surgery,” he said at the time.

Sandilands used his trademark dark humour while announcing the diagnosis, telling listeners: “If you just tuned in after all these years, lap it up. And if you’re in Melbourne, you may get your wish - I might be dead.”

He later explained the aneurysm by comparing it to a weakened section of a garden hose that had expanded into a bubble, rather than a blockage. He warned then that a rupture could have catastrophic consequences.

The diagnosis came after Sandilands' doctors had been investigating persistent headaches. At the time, he said doctors were considering whether treatment could be performed via keyhole surgery or would require opening his skull.

The latest specialist appointment has now confirmed the aneurysm has grown by one millimetre, although Sandilands said it is not yet large enough for doctors to operate.
