Cricket Australia has rolled out a significant update to its Live App, introducing real-time AI-powered match insights, personalised fan interactions and access to official scorecards dating back to 1886.
The update, developed in partnership with Insight Enterprises, Microsoft, HCL Tech and Skewer, aims to deepen fan engagement by combining live match data with more than a century of cricket history, setting a new benchmark for digital sports experiences in Australia.
The new features are available now across iOS and Android.
Real-time insights meet cricket history
At the centre of the update is a new AI Insights feature, which delivers automated, editorial-style analysis as matches unfold.
Using agentic AI, the app surfaces live insights on player milestones, records, and key moments in real time, giving fans deeper context as the action unfolds.
Cricket Australia’s extensive archive, which includes official scorecards dating back to 1886, underpins the system.
By linking live matches to historical data, the app connects modern performances to cricket’s past, blending nostalgia with innovation.
Kieran McMillan, head of customer experience at Cricket Australia, said the update reflects a continued focus on fan-first digital experiences.
“The latest evolution of the Cricket Australia Live App reflects our commitment to delivering world-class experiences for our fans. By combining real-time AI insights with new interactivity for follow-up questions and access to official scorecards dating back to 1886, we are offering a unique level of engagement and personalisation in sports technology,” McMillan said.
“This combination of history and technology sets a new benchmark for how fans connect with the game.”

AI as a live match companion
The AI Insights feature allows fans to ask follow-up questions during matches, with responses generated by OpenAI’s GPT-5, hosted within Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry.
Rather than replacing commentary, the tool is designed to act as a companion to live viewing, helping fans explore moments, trends and context in real time.
In a future release, fans will also be able to select different AI personas, including options such as “History Buff” or “Newbie”, allowing insights to be tailored to varying levels of cricket knowledge.
Mike Morgan, senior vice president and managing director of Insight APAC, said the update signals a shift in how technology is being used in live sport.
“As an AI-first leading solutions integrator, Insight is proud to power the AI Insights feature within the Cricket Australia Live App, ushering in a new era of fan engagement,” Morgan said.
“By uniting advanced artificial intelligence, cloud innovation and a passion for sport, we are helping Cricket Australia deliver a richer, more personalised and truly interactive experience for every fan.”

Building conversation and community
With more than one million Australians using the Cricket Australia Live App each summer, the platform has become a central hub for cricket fans.
The new features are designed not only to inform, but also to spark conversation, encouraging fans to share insights, debate milestones and engage with each other throughout a match.
Sarah Carney, technology officer at Microsoft Australia and New Zealand, said the update demonstrates how AI can reshape fan engagement when applied at scale.

“Cricket Australia continues to show what’s possible when a sporting code leans all the way into AI,” Carney said.
“By combining real-time, analyst-grade insights with more than a century of rich cricket history, they’re setting a new global benchmark for how technology can deepen our connection to the game.”
