'Free pu*sy': What role did Snapchat play in the Cornell 7 alleged rapes?

As news of seven Cornell University students who allegedly gang raped a fellow student shocks the world, it's emerged that the social media app Snapchat was used extensively in communications on the night.

CBS News has exclusively obtained evidence of a group Snapchat conversation from the woman, who says she was drugged and raped inside the Chi Phi fraternity house.

At 1:42 a.m. on the night of the alleged rapes, a message was sent to the group chat announcing a woman was available for sex with members.

One of the male students said there was “free p***y” in a Snapchat group titled Chi Phi Actives.

“This is crazy work,” one of the defendants allegedly responded.

"Shop still open?" another fraternity brother messaged later.

The response was: "Yea."

Attorney Thomas Giuffra now represents the woman, identified as Jane Doe.

"She's barely hanging on for what these guys did to her," Giuffra told CBS News.

Giuffra said Doe was traumatized by the 2024 attack, which was reported at the time. 

The lawsuit she has now filed argues investigators failed to properly examine evidence, including the Snapchat group chat - which involved 57 men.

Seven attended the alleged gang rape, and not one investigated to help or notify authorities.

According to court documents, Doe had been visiting a friend at Cornell’s Chi Phi frat house when she was pressured to take ketamine before being gang raped.

The lawsuit states that multiple people “began engaging in sexual acts with Plaintiff, all without her consent,” including both oral and vaginal intercourse.

The alleged sexual assault on Doe was reported to the university campus and the police a week later.

The fraternity and the seven accused students were placed on temporary suspensions.

After an investigation by Cornell University, two of the seven fraternity members were expelled, with others receiving suspensions, workshops, or assigned to write essays.

Last week, the Tompkins County District Attorney's Office re-opened the investigation. It claimed that it did not have enough evidence when the sexual assaults were reported by Jane Doe in 2024.
