News Corp Australia has announced the appointment of Christine Centenera as editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia magazine.
Centenera will report to News Corp Australia editorial director and publisher News Prestige and Conde Nast titles Australia, Edwina McCann, with her first issue in March 2023.
Centenera has been with the brand since 2012 and is currently fashion director of Vogue Australia. She will continue to be based between Australia, London, and the US. While travel will remain part of her working life, Centenera said she will be spending more time in Australia.
“I love being in close proximity to the extraordinary photographers and people that we work with on the pages – anywhere in the world,” Centenera said.
“Wherever I go people love Australia and I’m proud to be an Australian abroad.
“I’m excited to take on this new role and will work to deliver fresh creativity to the covers of Vogue Australia and across every page of the magazine, championing and nurturing inspiring design and exceptional fashion in Australia and internationally; celebrating interesting people, their achievements and ideas with compassion, intelligence and humour; and naturally exploring gender and always championing diversity and originality. Vogue Australia must always be the authority on fashion and a reflection of the times.”
McCann said: “After more than 10 years editing the magazine, I am thrilled Christine has agreed to expand her role and look forward to seeing the next chapter of Vogue Australia magazine’s rich history unfold.
“We have worked together for more than 13 years, and Christine is my natural choice to succeed me in this role. While I will continue as the magazine’s editorial director and publisher, this change will allow me to focus on our expanding and successful Prestige publishing business at News Corp Australia, which also includes Conde Nast titles GQ Australia and Vogue Living.”
In addition, McCann also announced Jessica Montague, current deputy editor of Vogue Australia, has been promoted to the new role of Executive Editor of the brand. She will increase her remit with this new role by supporting Centenera on the magazine and also McCann in the expanding digital, audio, ecommerce and experiential categories.
“Jessica is an accomplished journalist and team leader who contributes to all our content platforms and campaigns such as Vogue Codes,” said McCann.
“Together these appointments strengthen our local market leadership in the Prestige category, enhance Vogue Australia magazine’s international standing, and usher in a new generation of talented editorial leaders for our business.”
