Total TV reached 86.7 per cent of Australians each month during the first half of 2026, as BVOD continued to take a larger share of viewing.

New data from OzTAM shows Australians consumed 70 billion minutes of broadcast TV and BVOD content each month. Live sport also helped push BVOD viewing to its highest weekly level since VOZ currency launched in December 2021.

BVOD takes a bigger share

BVOD accounted for 19.1 per cent of Total TV viewing minutes during the period. That was up from 16.2 per cent in the second half of 2025.

The shift was strongest among younger viewers. Australians aged 16 to 39 recorded the highest exclusive BVOD monthly reach at 19.9 per cent.

The TV set remained the dominant screen across demographics. However, viewing on computers, tablets and smartphones continued to grow, led by the 16 to 39 audience.

Live sport pushes viewing to a record

The FIFA World Cup and NRL State of Origin helped generate 4.8 billion BVOD viewing minutes during the week of 14 to 20 June.

OzTAM said it was the highest weekly BVOD volume recorded since VOZ became the industry currency in December 2021.

FAST channels also represented 4.5 per cent of BVOD viewing. OzTAM said their viewing patterns differed from other content, with stronger activity during daytime periods and on weekends.

Karen Halligan, Chief Executive Officer of OzTAM, said: “Total TV continues to demonstrate its scale and relevance, while the growth in BVOD viewing shows that audiences want greater flexibility in how and when they watch.

“Live sporting events also continue to bring mass audiences together, delivering some record-breaking numbers. The VOZ Total TV Viewing Report distils the trends that matter most from the VOZ Total TV currency data, giving our time-poor industry a clear view of the insights shaping how Australians are watching.”

What the report measures

The VOZ Total TV Viewing Report covers viewing from 28 December 2025 to 27 June 2026, spanning weeks one to 26.

It uses the VOZ Total TV currency database to provide a national, de-duplicated view of free-to-air broadcast television and BVOD viewing across devices, audiences and genres.

The report is separate from OzTAM’s Streamscape report, although it includes a snapshot of that data. Streamscape also incorporates subscription video-on-demand and other streaming services.
