Radio Ratings: GfK Survey 3, 2019 – Sydney

• #1 overall 2GB and #1 FM smoothfm increase their leads

The station and Alan Jones have recorded their second-best survey results in the past four years as the station celebrates 15 years as Sydney’s #1. The only better recent result was in survey 6, 2018 when the station was on 15.4% and Jones had 19.0% of the breakfast audience. This time he has 17.6%, up from 16.4% in survey 2, 2019. It was also a good survey for Ray Hadley with his share up 0.8% to 17.7%, which is amongst his best surveys. Chris Smith and Ben Fordham both increased their market-leading shares. Evening was down marginally to 16.1%.

smoothfm 95.3 10.0%

This is the fifth consecutive survey as #1 FM. Share 10+ lifted 0.5 this survey, despite a drop in breakfast where Bogart and Glenn dipped 0.5 to 7.5%. The growth at the station was driven by at-work listening with afternoon up 1.4 to 11.4%, while morning was up 0.8 to 10.5%. The station lost FM drive leadership, as sister station Nova 96.9 overtook smoothfm. The station ranks #1 FM 55-64 and #3 40-54.

KIIS 1065 9.3%

Both the station and breakfast with Kyle and Jackie O recorded their best result in 12 months. The biggest improvement was in drive where Will and Woody saw share up to 9.5% where they are now #2 FM, narrowly trailing Nova by 0.4. In the demos, KIIS jumped 4.0 to 19.4% 18-24 where it widened its lead over Nova.

WSFM 8.1%

Breakfast hosts Jonesy and Amanda have helped push the station back above 7%. Breakfast was up 0.9 to 8.8% where it ranks #2 FM behind only KIIS. In the demos, WSFM lost top spot 40-54 to KIIS where ARN is in total control.

Nova 96.9 7.2%

Across the board growth this survey with Fitzy and Wippa climbing 0.3 to 7.2%. All daparts lifted with Kate, Tim and Marty surging 1.5 to 9.9% where they again rule in drive. Cume is the big story here with Nova #1 overall with 1,006,000 while breakfast is also #1 with 523,000,

104.1 2Day FM 5.6%

Although share dipped 0.4 this survey from its recent high of 6.0%, this is still the station’s best start to a year in several years. Breakfast with Grant, Ed and Ash was down 0.3 to 4.2%.

104.9 Triple M 5.5%

There’s still a fair way to go, but the station share indicates the audience is on the move back with +0.8 this survey the best in the market. Breakfast with Lawrence Mooney got a tick from the audience, with share up 0.7 to 5.6%.

2CH 1170 3.8%

After a challenging survey 2, the station has clawed it was way back close to 4%. The audience gains were in afternoon, drive and evening.

Macquarie Sports 954 0.8%

Share was up a little and is the second best since Talking Lifestyle switched to sport. Only daypart to crack 1.0% is weekends.

Sky Sports Radio 0.4%

Last survey looked like the result of a statistical blip, but it’s happened again. The station and breakfast remain at near record lows.
