New York Times executive shot dead

Jonathan McKinsey, director of engineering for New York Times Games, has been shot dead in California. Police have arrested his parents-in-law on suspicion of murder.

McKinsey, 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the car park of the Dublin Sports Grounds over the weekend. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The New York Times confirmed his role to Fox News and said he had worked at the company since January 2023.

Dublin Police Services identified the suspects as Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77. 

The married couple are McKinsey’s parents-in-law, police said. Officers located them nearby with help from witnesses and arrested them within minutes. Both were booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of murder.

Police said there were no outstanding suspects or known threat to the public. Detectives are still investigating what led to the shooting; they have not announced a motive.
