'Bullsh*t': Piers Morgan threatens legal action against Princess Diana's brother

British television host Piers Morgan has threatened legal action over claims Earl Charles Spencer made about him in his upcoming book about Princess Diana.

Spencer is Diana's younger brother, and has written Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, to be released on September 22 in the UK. The books is a personal tribute and account of Diana's life, childhood, and the week of her death, to honour the upcoming 30th anniversary of her passing.

In one excerpt of the memoir which Morgan has taken exception to, Spencer says he called newspaper editors at the time and asked them not to attend Diana's service at Westminster Abbey. 

They all apparently agreed, considering the circumstances of Diana's death in Paris.

Morgan, then editor of the Daily Mirror, was the exception, according to the excerpt, first obtained by The Independent.

Spencer reportedly writes, “The only one who sounded surly, as opposed to merely confused or embarrassed, was Piers Morgan of the Mirror, who snarled with annoyance before he hung up."

Morgan has rejected the claims, describing the allegations as “demonstrable lies.”

He's also called Spencer a hypocrite, citing his apparent declaration in 1998 that “I'll never profit from Diana's death.”

Morgan says the Earl's book is motivated by his “three failed marriages and the immense cost of maintaining a vast property empire.”

The journalist has also slammed the book as prioritising “profit over principle”, and compared it to Prince Harry's tell-all, Spare.

In a recent interview, Spencer said that he has “a duty to history” to publish his version of events.

This includes comments from the now King Charles, where he apparently responded to the news of Diana's death with “glee”.
