In total, the inaugural report covers more than 18,000 titles

Netflix has launched an engagement report to provide advertisers and content creators with “deeper insights” into its audiences and the content which resonates with them.

The twice-yearly report, What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report, will provide insights into the most popular content and the hours consumers spend engaging with it.

The reports will detail what people watched on Netflix over a six-month period, including the number of hours viewed for every title – original and licensed – watched for over 50,000 hours.

In total, the inaugural report covers more than 18,000 titles – representing 99% of all viewing on Netflix – and nearly 100 billion hours viewed between January 1st and June 30th 2023.

Topping the inaugural report was The Night Agent: Season 1, released in March. The title was watched for 812,100,000 hours, leading second-placed Ginny & Georgia: Season 2 by almost 150,000,000 hours.

In 242nd place, the most-watched Australian title on the streamer over the period was True Spirit, the biopic Jessica Watson and her solo round-the-world journey in 2009 / 2010.

Skipping down to the 400th position, you’ll find the most-watched Australian series. Celeste Barber’s Wellmania was released in March and clocked up 41,300,000 hours globally – however, Netflix has already decided not to renew the series for a second season.

Speaking about the numbers on Instagram, Barber said, “I had no idea that it went that well – we knew it went well, that people loved it around the world, and that critics loved it. That’s why everyone – everyone! – was shocked when it didn’t get renewed.”

She also joked, “I’m so stoked that you guys love that show so much and I’m really, really excited to give you guys season two – oh wait no, that’s right.”

Titles set to join Netflix in January 2024 include Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe, Griselda inspired by the life of Griselda Blanco, and South Korean Gyeongseong Creature Part 2.
