Margot Robbie’s ‘Neighbours’ episodes to be recut into a microdrama

Australian family drama Neighbours lives another day - we kid you not.

The iconic show, which has been revived a couple of times already, is being recut into short-form vertical video by RoseBerry Media for its Epis (stylised as “epis”) platform. 

Episodes featuring Aussie actor-turned-Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie will be the first to get the AI treatment.

Robbie played Donna Freedman on the series from 2008 to 2011 before moving on to American projects. 

For Epis’ microdrama launch of Neighbours, two of Donna's storylines will be edited into vertical micro-episodes, for a combined 150 minutes in total.

The series will be transformed into short-form episodes via RedSnapper, RoseBerry’s proprietary production workflow, which uses AI to turn content into vertical series.

Variety reports that RoseBerry was set to announce the vertical-series edits on Monday, along with series producer Fremantle. 

Neighbours to get AI touch

The popular Australian drama ran from 1985 to 2025. Successful alumni of the show include Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Jesse Spencer.

“Neighbours is an iconic piece of television history, and exactly the kind of premium entertainment IP we believe can thrive in the vertical format,” Guy Hameiri, co-founder and CEO of RoseBerry Media, said in a statement. 

“This is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to apply RedSnapper to a long-running soap with such a rich library of characters, storylines and cultural moments, and Fremantle has been a fantastic partner in helping bring that vision to life.”

Social media response to Neighbours AI edits

Aussies have expressed their thoughts on social media about ‘messing’ with the beloved show.

"More AI slop," one wrote.

Another was disgusted, writing, “This is gross in my opinion. There's something really unseemly about it that I can't quite put my finger on.”

Then there was this person who was confused; "Who asked for this?" 

The answer, of course, is that time will tell how well the episodes will be received.
