Georgie Gardner calls time on nearly 25 years at Nine

Gardner will read her final bulletin on 17 April 2026.

Georgie Gardner will leave Nine next month, bringing to a close a near 25-year run that has seen her become one of the network’s most recognisable and trusted on-air journalists.

Her departure marks the end of an era for Nine News, with Gardner having occupied almost every major presenting role across the network since joining in 2002.

A defining face of Nine news

Gardner began at Nine presenting weekday weather on 9News alongside Brian Henderson while also reading morning bulletins.

She later became a core part of Today, joining in 2007 as a newsreader and fill-in host before returning in 2018 as a co-host for two years.

For much of the past 17 years, she has anchored 9News Sydney’s 6pm weekend bulletin, becoming a familiar weekend presence in homes across Australia.

Fiona Dear

Fiona Dear, Executive Director of News and Current Affairs at Nine, said Gardner’s contribution to the network has been exceptional.

“Georgie’s versatility as a presenter has seen her hold almost every on-air news role at Nine. It’s a remarkable achievement and during that time Georgie has been loved and respected by audiences across Australia.”

A career spanning defining moments

Dear said Gardner had helped guide viewers through some of the country’s most significant news events across multiple time slots.

“She has had a front row seat to some of the most important moments in history, delivering the biggest news stories to audiences first thing in the morning, in prime time at 6pm and late into the evening with Nightline.”

“She has had a front row seat” captures why Gardner’s exit carries weight beyond a routine presenter move – for many viewers, she has been part of the rhythm of Australian news for more than two decades.

Gardner reflects on the long Nine chapter

Gardner said the network had offered her extraordinary opportunities throughout her career.

“I could not be more grateful for the range of opportunities Nine has afforded me over nearly a quarter of a century.”

“Anchoring news bulletins across the day, as well as reporting and hosting roles on virtually every news program at the Network has been incredibly satisfying and an enormous privilege.”

She also paid tribute to colleagues and long-time viewers.

“I will be forever thankful for having worked with countless colleagues, who are quite simply the best in the industry and I am humbled by the knowledge that there are viewers who have followed my career.”

Gardner will read her final bulletin on 17 April 2026, with Nine expected to announce her replacement in the coming months.
