‘Friends’ star returns for final season of HBO sitcom on Max

Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback

Lisa Kudrow’s cult comedy The Comeback will return for a third and final season in 2026, 20 years after it first aired on HBO.

Lisa Kudrow will reprise her role as Valerie Cherish one last time, with HBO confirming a third and final season of *The Comeback* is set to air in 2026.

Originally launched in 2005, The Comeback, created by Kudrow and Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King, has been revived once more, a decade after its last season aired in 2014. Production on the eight-episode season is scheduled to begin this summer in the US.

Returning alongside Kudrow are series regulars Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman and Damian Young.

Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President, HBO & Max Comedy Programming, said the timing of Valerie’s return feels right: “No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO and we can’t wait to see that.”

In a joint statement, Kudrow and King added: “Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did.”

The third season will continue to follow Valerie’s ongoing quest for fame in Hollywood, skewering the entertainment industry’s obsession with image, relevance and reinvention. Kudrow and King will executive produce alongside John Melfi and Dan Bucatinsky.

The series will premiere on HBO and Max in 2026.
