Bastion and Engineers Australia are set to make Formula 1 history this International Women’s Day with the launch of In Her Corner at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
For the first time in Formula 1 history, a corner at a Grand Prix circuit will be named in honour of women engineers.
A historic renaming at Albert Park
Developed by Bastion in partnership with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, In Her Corner will see Turn 6 at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit renamed to recognise two trailblazing engineers: Laura K. Müller, Race Engineer at TGR Haas F1 Team and the first female full-time race engineer in Formula 1, and Hannah Schmitz, Head of Race Strategy at Oracle Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology.

Traditionally, F1 corners are named after motorsport legends. Until now, none have recognised women shaping the sport through engineering.
The initiative forms part of Bastion’s three-year partnership with Engineers Australia under its Making Life Happen platform, which aims to reposition engineering as modern, ambitious and culturally relevant.
With women representing just 13% of engineers in Australia, the brief was to elevate the profession into mainstream conversation.
Engineering takes centre stage
Formula 1 was chosen as the platform given its status as the pinnacle of engineering performance and innovation.
Turn 6 will also feature an Engineers Australia In Her Corner Grandstand and Innovation Hub, showcasing the role engineers play in motorsport and creating pathways for students and fans to explore the profession.

A ticketed In Her Corner event will also take place on Thursday, featuring panel discussions with Müller, Schmitz and senior Formula 1 figures including Global F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
Jamie Fletcher, Art Director at Bastion, said the initiative gained momentum quickly.
“From the moment we started to bring this idea to life, the momentum has kept building. And then having incredible talent like Laura and Hannah come on board has pushed that excitement and motivation up a notch. We are incredibly proud to develop an initiative that puts women engineers at the forefront of a global sport like Formula 1.”
Simon Langley, Chief Creative Officer at Bastion, said the work extends beyond a naming rights exercise.
“It is not often you have the opportunity to create something that genuinely shifts culture. In Her Corner is more than a naming rights moment. It is a statement for change. Partnering with Engineers Australia and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to make history at Formula 1 is exactly the kind of impact we believe brands should be making.”
Richard Riboni, General Manager Brand and Marketing at Engineers Australia, said the campaign addresses visibility within the profession.
“Engineering is one of the most important professions shaping our future, yet too many young women do not see it as a path open to them. In Her Corner puts women engineers in the spotlight at one of the most visible and celebrated engineering arenas in the world. By working with Bastion and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, we are not only celebrating extraordinary talent, we are showing the next generation that they belong in this profession. This initiative reflects our commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive engineering workforce and to leading that change from a position of strength.”
While launching at Albert Park, Bastion and Engineers Australia say the ambition is for the concept to extend across other races and circuits globally.
