Disney+ has released the trailer for its new original Australian series, Matildas: The World at Our Feet, premiering on April 26.
The new series is a behind-the-scenes story of Australia’s women’s national football team, the CommBank Matildas.
The series follows the stories of players, including global superstars Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter, Mary Fowler and more, as the Matildas reveal the sacrifices they’ve made and struggles they’ve endured as they look to become the best of the best in the world’s most popular sport.
The series is directed by Katie Bender Wynn (The Will To Fly), with Steve Bibb (Shipwreck Hunters Australia, Inside the Sydney Opera House) and Christopher G Cowen (Decades Series, College Football 150, State of Play) serving as executive producers, and David Briegel-Jones as co-executive producer. Fremantle and Boardwalk Pictures also contributed services to the production.
When the news was announced of the new docuseries in April last year, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, senior vice president and managing director of The Walt Disney Company in Australia and New Zealand said, “The Matildas are gamechangers for women’s sport in Australia and around the world.
“This Australian narrative details the impressive skill, determination, commitment, and stamina it takes in the lead up to the World Cup in 2023. The series transcends football and celebrates the true Australian spirit of the Matildas.”
