Dan Bourchier has been appointed General Manager of NITV, bringing more than 25 years of media experience to the role as the channel enters a new phase of network-wide growth and Indigenous leadership within the SBS network.
Bourchier most recently served as senior news anchor for the ABC News Channel, and previously held roles with Sky News and NITV. A proud Aboriginal man from Warumungu Country in the Northern Territory with family ties in Victoria, he is known for championing First Nations voices and storytelling across the national media landscape.
He also served as Chair of the ABC’s Bonner Committee since 2022, the broadcaster’s primary First Nations advisory body, and played a central role in the ABC’s national coverage of the Voice to Parliament Referendum. Bourchier also hosted The Drum and held governance roles including Chair of BlakDance, Council Member of the University of Canberra, and Non-Executive Director of Outback Stores.

As General Manager, Bourchier will lead NITV’s broadcast and digital strategy, oversee day-to-day operations, and continue to contribute through select on-air appearances and public outreach. He will work closely with NITV’s senior leadership team and across SBS to drive audience and community impact.
Of his appointment, Bourchier said: “This feels like coming home. NITV gave me my start in television back in 2010 as a political reporter, and returning now as General Manager is a privilege. NITV has always been an incubator of talented journalists and storytellers and is today investing more than ever in original First Nations programming, working with the First Nations media sector across the country.”
“I’m excited to work alongside such incredible people a team that continues to blaze a trail in truth-telling the stories that reflect the depth, diversity and strength of our communities. Together, we’ll build on NITV’s proud legacy and take it even more powerfully into the future,” he added.
The appointment follows the elevation of Tanya Denning-Orman to SBS Director, First Nations earlier this year – a network-wide role focused on embedding Indigenous content, leadership and culture across SBS platforms, with NITV at its core.
SBS Director of Television Kathryn Fink said: “We’re delighted to welcome Dan back. His incredible experience and commitment to First Nations storytelling will be instrumental as he leads NITV’s talented team.

“NITV has never been stronger, with prime-time audiences growing in a declining linear market, thriving digital platforms, a rich pipeline of First Nations content, and growing commercial revenue. Dan’s leadership will build on this momentum and take NITV to the next level, while ensuring its influence continues to be felt across the media landscape, elevating First Nations stories.”
Founded in 2007 and available free-to-air since 2012 as part of SBS, NITV delivers First Nations news, drama, current affairs, entertainment and children’s content. In 2024–25, NITV reached 4.1 million Australians monthly across linear and SBS On Demand, contributing to nearly 19 million hours of Indigenous content consumed on SBS platforms.
Bourchier will officially commence as General Manager of NITV on 29 September 2025.
