ARIA Charts: Korn snag their first #1 in over 20 years

The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber make it 17 weeks at #1 on the ARIA singles chart with Stay further cementing its spot at second on the list of most weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Stay is still seven weeks behind the #1, Tones And I’s Dance Monkey, which spent 24 weeks at #1 between August 2019 and January 2020.

We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Disney’s Encanto moves up one spot to hit the top 5 for the first time at #5. The soundtrack’s other chart hits, Surface Pressure and The Family Madrigal, sit at #20 and #40 this week, respectively. The soundtrack album has gone down one spot to #3.

ARIA Award-winning producer Flume hits the chart at #16 with Say Nothing. The collaboration with Sydney singer-songwriter MAY-A is the first track to come from Flume’s third album Palaces, set for release in May. Flume last appeared on the singles chart with The Difference, which featured American singer/songwriter and producer Toro y Moi.

Returning to the top 50 three weeks ago on the back of TikTok virality, Frank Ocean’s Lost takes out a new peak at #22.  The track, which appeared on Ocean’s debut album channel ORANGE originally peaked at #46 in February 2013 before hitting #32 on its return to the chart.

Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae takes out her second career entry in the ARIA top 50 with She’s All I Wanna Be at #28. It’s the second single to be released from McRae’s forthcoming debut album. She first appeared on the chart with You Broke Me First, which spent 48 weeks in the top 50.

Albums

Korn take out their third #1 album on the ARIA Charts with Requiem. The 14th studio album from the American nu-metal veterans is the follow-up to The Nothing, which hit #5 in September 2019, and becomes their tenth top ten album in Australia. Korn previously topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Follow The Leader in August 1998 and Issues in November 1999. Requiem also tops this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.

The highest ranking Australian album is a bit different this week. After six weeks out of the top 50, the Australian Bird Calls album Songs Of Disappearance has re-entered and claimed a new peak at #2. Its re-entry comes off the back of a new deluxe issue of the project that features 53 of the most threatened species of Australian native birds. The first album of its kind to chart in the ARIA top ten, it’s a collaboration between nature recordist David Stewart, Nature Sound, the Bowerbird Collective, BirdLife Australia, Charles Darwin University, and Mervyn Street of Mangkaja Arts. 

British post-punk band Black Country, New Road make their ARIA top 50 debut at #6 with Ants From Up There. The group’s second album comes a year on from their debut, For the First Time, which was released in February 2021 and peaked at #4 in the UK. Four days prior to the album’s release, Black Country, New Road’s lead vocalist and guitarist Isaac Wood announced his departure from the band. The group plans to continue in Wood’s absence.

Mitski takes out her ARIA top 50 debut at #7 with Laurel Hell. It’s the Japanese-American singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, coming nearly four years on from 2018’s Be The Cowboy. Mitski’s previous album became her first to chart in the UK and US. 

#35: Bodyjar ‘New Rituals’ – Melbourne pop-punk band Bodyjar return to the albums chart for the first time in almost a decade, debuting at #35 with New Rituals. The group’s eighth album is their first since Role Model which hit #30 in October 2013, and and is the first to feature current bass player Nick Manuell. Bodyjar’s highest chart peak has been with How It Works at #19 in August 2000.Korn snare first #1 in over 20 years
