AMEX inks a global NFL payments deal

The companies will launch the NFL Extra Points American Express Credit Card in the US.

American Express has signed a multi-year global partnership with the National Football League, becoming the league’s Official Payments Partner from the 2026 season.

The deal allows American Express to deliver ticket presales, exclusive perks and on-site experiences for card members across major NFL events worldwide, from preseason through to the Super Bowl.

Expanding fan access

The partnership will unlock presale ticket access, premium experiences and exclusive activations at key events including the NFL Draft, Super Bowl and international games.

Renie Anderson, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at the NFL, said the deal strengthens the league’s global fan engagement strategy.

“This collaboration will allow us to expand access to unforgettable moments… from international games to tentpole events such as the Draft and Super Bowl,” Anderson said.

Elizabeth Rutledge, Chief Marketing Officer at American Express, added the partnership builds on the brand’s broader sports portfolio.

“Partnering with the NFL is a natural extension for us and our commitment to delivering meaningful perks, exclusive access and elevated experiences,” Rutledge said.

Melbourne game in focus

The partnership will also play a role in the NFL’s international expansion, including ticket access for global games.

American Express card members will receive presale access for the 2026 NFL Melbourne game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, as the league continues to grow its presence in Australia.

On-ground activations

At the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, American Express will deliver fan experiences including priority access lanes, card member lounges and exclusive retail offers.

The brand will also introduce localised activations across international markets, aligning with the NFL’s push to expand its global footprint.

Deepening sports portfolio

The NFL joins a growing list of more than 50 sports partnerships across American Express’ global portfolio, spanning leagues, teams and major events.

The company has also expanded its presence at club level, offering perks at stadiums including those of the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.

New credit card offering

Later this year, the companies will launch the NFL Extra Points American Express Credit Card in the US, offering fans rewards tied to tickets, merchandise and exclusive experiences.

The deal reinforces the growing role of financial services brands in live sport, using access, loyalty and experience as key drivers of fan engagement.
