Town Square has appointed former PHD executive Matt Altis as head of media.

The hire follows a run of media pitch wins for the independent Melbourne-based agency. Altis is the first of several hires planned for the media team in the coming months.

Altis will lead media strategy and product, with a remit covering planning, process, operations and new media opportunities across Town Square's clients. Town Square said he will also work to bring media and creative closer together.

Danielle Moeller, founder and director at Town Square, said: “We’ve had a significant number of media pitch wins recently, which is a massive validation of the direction we are heading. Our full service clients understand the benefit of having media and creative working together, fuelling better results for their business.

“It means we’re closer to our client, we understand the commitments they’ve made to their own business, and everyone is focused on delivering client outcomes rather than protecting competing agency P&Ls. Hiring Matt is a major step in bolstering our capabilities and our investment into media. He has a brilliant strategic mind and the exact experience we need to take our integrated creative and media offering even further.”

He brings more than 15 years of experience working on large clients, most of it at PHD, along with time at Initiative. He was most recently business director for Asahi Group at PHD, where he led strategic portfolio planning and advised on media and investment decisions. He has also led media strategy for Energy Australia, ANZ, Priceline and Porsche.

Altis said: “Town Square has a track record of delivering results for clients for more than 20 years, yet it still has a genuine challenger mindset, that’s what drew me to the agency. Add to that an exceptional client roster and a model where media and creative already work hand in hand, and it was an easy decision.
