Abbie Chatfield steps into KIIS Breakfast as shake-up continues

Abbie Chatfield is the latest high-profile addition to step into KIIS FM’s Breakfast slot, as the network continues its search for a long-term replacement following the high-profile exit of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson.

The media personality will take over hosting duties across KIIS 1065 and KIIS 1011 from Monday, April 27, to Friday, May 1, joining a rotating lineup of fill-in talent including Mike E and Intern Pete. Her stint has already sparked speculation of an informal audition for the permanent role.

“I’m so excited to jump in with the KIIS Breakfast crew for the week,” Chatfield said.

“Breakfast radio is fast, fun, and full-on in the best way, so I think I’ll be a perfect fit! I can’t wait to get on air.”

Ratings reveal steady audience

The news comes just a day after the second radio ratings results for the year were revealed.

KIIS FM’s breakfast share eased to 11.7%, down from 12.7% in the previous survey, in what marks the first ratings read since Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson’s exit – but the drop is far from dramatic.

With only four weeks captured in the survey, and the pair still on air for roughly 60% of that period, the result sits firmly in transition territory. What’s more telling is what didn’t happen: listeners didn’t scatter en masse. The relatively modest dip suggests many have stayed put at KIIS, perhaps waiting until something better comes along.

Legal battle begins

Meanwhile, Kyle Sandilands’ first hearing against his former employer begins in the Federal Court today.

The radio host is suing ARN and its subsidiary, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation, alleging his contract was terminated without valid grounds and in breach of Australian Consumer Law.

The case follows ARN’s decision to terminate Sandilands’ deal after an on-air dispute with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson. Sandilands is arguing the termination was invalid, claiming there was no act of serious misconduct or breach of contract.
