A Current Affair launches behind-the-scenes podcast That’s ACA

Hosted by Steve Marshall and Lizzie Pearl, That’s ACA offers a weekly deep dive into the quirks and chaos behind Australia’s most-watched current affairs program.

A Current Affair has launched a new weekly podcast titled That’s ACA, giving audiences an insider look at the stories and personalities behind Nine’s nightly current affairs program.

Hosted by reporters Steve Marshall and Lizzie Pearl, the podcast unpacks the show’s most-talked-about segments while taking listeners behind the scenes of television reporting. Each Friday, the pair reflect on the week’s standout moments, share anecdotes from the road, and interview their fellow reporters about the often bizarre assignments that make it to air.

“There’s a saying in the ACA office, ‘that’s so ACA’,” said Marshall. “It’s those stories that are quintessentially Australian, that make you laugh, make you cry, that fire you up, or just make you shake your head and say… ‘Only in Australia’. This podcast is a celebration of those moments and a chance for our viewers to be part of the conversation.”

Pearl added, “Our viewers are so invested in these stories, and we’re constantly asked what happens when the cameras are off. This podcast is our chance to finally pull back the curtain… and really celebrate the craft of storytelling.”

Executive Producer Amy McCarthy said the podcast is a natural extension for the brand. “A Current Affair has been a staple in Australian living rooms for decades. That’s ACA is a natural evolution for the brand, allowing us to connect with our audience on a deeper level and on new platforms.”

New episodes are released each Friday morning, with the first three instalments already available. Early topics include the show’s iconic “bounce” technique, whistleblower-driven stories, and an interview with ex-mobster Michael Franzese.

• Episode 1: The Art of the Bounce – On navigating confrontational interviews, the power of public tips, and viewer questions.
Episode 2: Whistleblowers, Wine and Wins – Behind major scoops, a tipsy lunch with Nonnos, and the story of “Justice for Bernice.”
Episode 3: It’s Not Personal, It’s Strictly Business – The full interview that Ally Langdon had with Michael Franzese, former member of the Colombo crime family.

That’s ACA is available in video on YouTube and in audio on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
