Thank God You’re Here is making its return to screens later this year.

The improv comedy show is being revived by 10 with the production company Working Dog, as confirmed by TV Tonight and production company Working Dog.

10 teased the return of the show during the Australian Grand Prix over the weekend as a game to keep audiences guessing.

The improv show was hosted by Shane Bourne and ran from 2006 to 2007 on 10 before it was moved to Seven for its final fourth season in 2009.

Among the comedians to have walked through the famous blue door are Rebel Wilson, Hamish Blake, Shaun Micallef, Adam Hills, Anh Do, Julia Zemiro, Glenn Robbins and Frank Woodley.

The comedian, dressed in a costume related to the set, will walk through the blue door and onto a set as an actor greets them with “Thank God You’re Here”. The guest performer won’t have an immediate idea of the situation and must get through the scene. At the end, Tom Gleisner judged performances and chose the weekly winner.

Love Me

Celia Pacquola

The new iteration will see comedian Celia Pacquloa take the helm as host of the show. Pacquola said of her new role: “I’m so excited Thank God You’re Here is coming back, and I’m thrilled to host because that means I’ll be in the best position to watch it. I can’t wait to send comedians through the big blue door and not have to go through it myself.”

Daniel Monaghan, senior vice president content & programming, Paramount ANZ told TV Tonight the much-loved comedy program would be returning to screens later this year.

“Thank God You’re Here holds a special place in our hearts at Network 10. It was one of the most talked about shows on Australian television and was responsible for launching and celebrating a wealth of intelligent, lively and hilarious Australian talent,” he added.

Michael Hirsh, from Working Dog, also shared his excitement at the return of the improv comedy for a new generation.

“We loved making Thank God You’re Here a few years ago, and feel the time is right for a new bunch of comedians to go through the blue door. We have brought the show back for 2023 and beyond with a new host, the wonderful, multi-talented and funny Celia Pacquola along with new judges, new ensemble, and new guests.

“We can’t wait to see this new crop of funny people bullshit their way out of sticky situations,” he added.
