After 17 years on Australian television, Sky News Australia presenter Kenny Heatley has announced his departure, not just from the network, but from TV entirely.
In a heartfelt post shared on social media, Heatley reflected on his nearly two-decade career in front of the camera, describing his final day at Sky News Australia as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
“After 17 incredible years on camera, today is my last day at Sky News Australia, and my final day on Australian television,” he wrote.
“It’s hard to put into words. From the pre-dawn newsroom starts and breaking news adrenaline, to the privilege of telling stories that mattered and being part of the national conversation, it’s been an honour to serve audiences across Australia.”
Before his news presenting career, Heatley began as a weather presenter, a role he once described as “a great launch pad into TV.”
“You end up nailing every severe weather assignment as a reporter forever,” he joked.
Over the years, Heatley became a familiar face to Sky News Australia viewers, covering everything from breaking political developments to rolling coverage of natural disasters and national events.

Farewell to colleagues and viewers
In his farewell, Heatley paid tribute to the people behind the scenes who helped shape his career.
“To my brilliant colleagues, past and present: thank you,” he wrote. “Working alongside such talented and hard-working journalists, camera crews, producers, editors, hosts and technical teams has truly been the highlight of my career. You’ve inspired me every single day with your dedication and passion for getting it right – fast, fair, and factual.”
He also shared a message of gratitude for his audience:
“To our viewers, thank you for inviting me into your homes each morning. Your messages, conversations, and encouragement have meant more than you know.”
What’s next?
While Heatley hasn’t revealed details about his next move, he hinted at stepping into new territory beyond television.
“While I’m stepping away from the cameras, I’m excited about what’s next, new challenges, new beginnings and new opportunities,” he said.
“For now, I’m simply grateful. Grateful for every live cross, every bulletin, every early start, every laugh, and every person and story that’s made this ride so unforgettable.”
