Nine’s Melbourne Cup gamble has paid off, with the 2025 broadcast delivering a strong result for the network.
Wednesday’s coverage of the race that stops the nation drew a National Total TV Reach of 2.316 million – edging up from 2.218 million last year.
Digital also flexed. 9Now’s BVOD audience climbed to 463,000, marking a 24.8% year-on-year jump and signalling sharper momentum in streaming as Cup fans continue to shift screens.
“Yesterday’s results are a testament to the enduring power of the Melbourne Cup as one of Australia’s premier sporting and cultural moments. We are thrilled to see such significant audience growth, particularly the huge numbers on 9Now, which proves our Total TV strategy is delivering for viewers,” Brent Williams, Nine’s Director of Sport, said.
“Our world-class broadcast team captured the magic of the day perfectly and we are proud to have brought Jamie Melham’s historic, race-winning ride to all of Australia, live and free. It was an unforgettable day and these numbers confirm that Australians agree.”
Almost 85,000 were in attendance at Flemington Racecourse where Australian-bred horse, Half Yours, took out the big race.
