Network 10 has officially launched a new state-of-the-art green screen virtual studio in Melbourne, marking a significant step in the broadcaster’s investment in advanced production technology.
The facility, named Studio 1A, is equipped with fully automated, remote-controlled cameras and an immersive graphics platform powered by Unreal Engine – the same technology widely used across global broadcast and film industries. The integration allows for seamless camera movements, real-time scene changes, and dynamic visual effects.
Studio 1A’s multifunctional design enables swift transitions between news, special events and other broadcast formats by simply loading a new virtual set. Presenters are no longer confined to fixed positions, opening up new ways to deliver stories and engage viewers.

Martin White, VP News, said the studio is an important step forward for Network 10’s news operations: “It’s a really exciting time here at 10 News. Our local 5pm bulletin is up 9% year-on-year across all markets, and we know how important the Melbourne market is. Victorians love local news, so I’m thrilled we’re able to give them an unparalleled, immersive local news, sport and weather experience with this new technology.”
White added that the investment reflects the strength of the newsroom: “Our team is at the forefront of news in this country, and this is just a first step.”
Automated camera systems allow for precise integration with graphics, delivering complex live shots and effects that were previously unattainable. Network 10 said the technology will not only modernise presentation but also strengthen its ability to deliver accurate and reliable journalism in new, immersive ways.
The studio launch highlights the growing role of virtual production in Australian broadcasting, setting a new benchmark for visual storytelling in commercial television.
