Best 10+ 16.6% (13.5%)
Best Breakfast 22.7% (18.1%)

The lowest Survey 1 to start of a year for 3AW in Melbourne radio ratings since 2020, even if it is up on the end of 2023. Ross and Russ are still killing it in breakfast. But by their own high standard, this is the first time this duo hasn’t cracked 22% for three years to start a new survey year. 3AW remains #1 overall in breakfast, morning and evening, and #1 AM in afternoon and drive. First morning result for Tom Ellliott sees him firmly in control with 0.5 more than Neil Mitchell finished 2023 with. Afternoons now with Tony Moclair was just 0.3 down on the end of 2023. Jacqui Felgate saw the drive audience dip 2.0 from the station number in Survey 8, 2023. Key station demos surged with 55-64 up 2.2 to 21.1% and 65+ was up 5.4 to 35.0%.

Gold 104.3 11.8% (10.3%)
Cume 1,262,000 (+31,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 12.7% (9.6%)
Best Breakfast 12.2% (8.4%)

After finishing 2023 level with Fox on 10.3%, Gold has climbed back into FM leadership with 2.4 break over its rival. The results in breakfast were also flipped with Christian O’Connell, Jack and Pats reclaiming the FM breakfast podium as share lifted 2.9 to 11.9%. The station was on an upward trajectory right across the day with lifts in morning (+1.1 to 12.5%), afternoon (+1.0 to 12.9%), drive (+1.6 to 11.3%) and even at night (+0.9 to 11.2%). Of those results, afternoon and drive rank Gold #1 overall, while the others are all good enough to be #1 FM. There were lifts of close to 5% with listeners under 24, slight lift 25+ too.

101.9 Fox FM 9.4% (10.3%)
Cume 1,328,000 (+28,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 10.5% (8.8%)
Best Breakfast 11.0% (9.4%)

Fox breakfast team Fifi, Fev and Nick had to give up #1 FM spot. But their start to 2024 is better than any survey result last year. It’s also the best breakfast share in close to a decade or more. Morning at Fox was up a little, but afternoon and drive both dipped close to 1.5 with shares now under 10%. Evening took a bigger hit with share down 2.8 to 5.3%. GfK might get a ‘please explain’ about the fall in 18-24s where share sunk from 22.2% to 13.8%.

smoothfm 91.5 7.5% (9.4%)
Cume 1,046,000 (-106,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 9.9% (8.5%)
Best Breakfast 8.9% (6.6%)

The station has missed recreating its 2023 record, where all surveys bar one were over 9%. The odd one out was Survey 7, 2023 on 8.5%. With a 7.5% to start the year, this is close to how the year started in 2022. Breakfast dipped 0.9 to 6.6% which was the bottom for the brand last year. All dayparts took a hit with afternoon down 2.1 to 7.4% and evening down 3.3 to 8.2%. Big demo swings were 25-39 (down 3.6 to 5.7%) and 55-64 (down 3.6 to 10.2%).

105.1 Triple M 7.8% (6.4%)
Cume 827,000 (+44,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 6.9% (5.3%)
Best Breakfast 7.2% (4.7%)

Overall, a strong result but hard to figure how morning, afternoon and drive get a boost, yet breakfast is still stuck in the 6s. The station has just posted its three best consecutive breakfast shares though since the start of 2019. Afternoon really took off with share up 3.7 to 10.8%. Triple M is now #3 FM 25-39 behind Fox and Nova plus remains #2 FM behind Gold 40-54.

Nova 100 7.1% (6.4%)

More good cume growth continues here with share edging higher too. After a disappointing result at the end of 2023, Ben, Liam and Belle saw a small audience spike to 6.7%, close to their average for their year in breakfast. You would expect some growth too next survey for Jase and Lauren. But how much, who knows? Nova’s shares grew in morning and afternoon, with afternoon and drive flat. Biggest demo move was +3.9 to 15.3% 18-24.

KIIS 101.1 FM 6.4% (7.6%)
Cume 1,123,000 (-102,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 7.6% (6.5%)
Best Breakfast 9.1% (6.5%)

The scene is set now for the arrival of Kyle and Jackie O. Although there is still one more survey to wash through before we will get a guide to their arrival in a second city. The farewell spike to the old Jase and Lauren slot has eased. But a very reasonable number for Byron Cooke going solo – breakfast cume of nearly half a million! Share took a knock right across the day. Will and Woody remain the KIIS Melbourne star attraction with share on 8.6% (down 1.4). Biggest demo move was 25-39s went from 14.8% to 11.0%.

SEN 2.6% (2.4%)

2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 3.7% (1.8%)

Cume 205,000 (-12,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)

Cume dipped a little but held above 200,000. Breakfast share doubled here – 0.6% to 1.2% – keeping the station ahead of other AM minnows RSN and Magic. Weekends are the strongest daypart on 2.1% (+0.7). Best weekday slot is afternoon on 1.0% (+0.6). Share 65+ is 4.2%, pushing 3MP ahead of SEN, RSN, and Magic.

Cume 138,000 (-15,000)
2023 results Best (Worst)
Best 10+ 1.6% (0.8%)
Best Breakfast 0.8% (0.3%)

A bump of 0.4 for the station overall reverberated through all dayparts. Breakfast share double – 0.3% to 0.6%. Evening again posted the best result with share up 1.1 to 2.4%. Weekends were next strongest with share up 0.2 to 1.8%. Growth 65+ saw share on 3.6% from 2.4%.

That cume number is getting pretty small. Weekend continues to lead with 1.0%. Breakfast is on 0.8% (-0.1).
