The year 2021 continues to deliver strong ratings to news stations with the station recording its third best 10+ number in over six years. It’s the 55th consecutive station survey win. The other two better results came in the last two surveys of 2020. Breakfast with Ross and Russel pushed close to 24%, the best for 2020 and one of the four best shares in over six years. Also climbing above 20% were Neil Mitchell in morning and Brooke Corte and Dennis Walter in evening. The station now has over 25% of all listeners, including the ABC, 55-64. 3AW also remains #2 overall 40-54, trailing only Gold.

The results here are again reflective of the Covid climate and you can expect normal transmission to resume probably by Survey 8 as hopefully lockdowns become a thing of the past. All dayparts dipped except evening where share was up 1.1 to 6.9%. Listening up was 2.0+ with listeners under 24 and down 2.0+ 25-54.

A positive book, albeit off a very low base. The station overall and breakfast lifted. Drive with Mick Molloy is the best performing daypart on 6.3% (+0.5). Share was down 18-24, but up 40-54.

KIIS 101.1 FM 4.6% (4.5%)

Very little movement anywhere across the day which is a good thing in this survey. Breakfast with Jase and Lauren edged higher, up 0.2 to 4.8%. The station cume recovered a little and pushed back closer to 900,000.

SEN 3.7% (3.0%)

Cume 377,000 (+58,000)

Breakfast with Garry and Tim did well with the survey period including three of the AFL Final Series weeks. The breakfast share of 3.8% was up 0.9 and is also the best result since 2019. Morning with Gerard Whateley was on 4.1% (+1.2) and Dwayne Russell’s afternoon show lifted to 4.0% (+0.3). The audience share 18-24 took off, up 6.6 to 8.6%.

Cume 119,000 (-6,000)
2020 results: Best/worst

Best Breakfast 0.8% (0.5%)

Share lifted nicely with cume just having a minor correction. Magic breakfast however dropped 0.3 to 0.4%, but afternoon, drive and evening all lifted 0.5 or better.

3MP 1377 1.2% (1.0%)

Cume 139,000 (+51,000)

Share and cume were up and 3MP now has a better cume audience than Magic. 3MP also has a better breakfast share than Magic, with Jon Vertigan and Julie Strini lifting MP share 0.4 to 0.9%.

RSN 927 0.6% (0.4%)

Cume: 106,000 (+45,000)

Another new high for the station and the breakfast show in its first year back in the survey. Plenty of speculation about a mooted sale of the broadcast licence with Tabcorp seemingly the likely buyer, but the licence hasn’t changed hands yet.
