George Caralis: ‘Joan brings a wealth of experience … and a depth of knowledge of the radio and broader media industries.’

The Super Radio Network has appointed experienced radio executive Joan Warner as chair of the board of directors across its group of companies.

Warner served as chief executive of Commercial Radio & Audio Australia (formerly Commercial Radio Australia) for over 20 years until 2022, and has held senior roles across both private and public sectors.

“We are delighted to welcome Joan to Super Radio Network,” said director George Caralis. “Joan brings a wealth of experience across a range of industries and sectors but importantly a depth of knowledge of the radio and broader media industries. Her knowledge of the commercial media environment, challenges facing the radio industry in the digital age, corporate governance and the complex regulatory landscape within which commercial radio operates will be of great value to Super Radio Network as we chart our future course.”

Director Despina Priala (Caralis) highlighted Warner’s leadership during her CRA tenure, including the development of the RadioApp, its integration into Amazon and Google devices, the Podcast Ranker, securing no-cost digital radio spectrum, the Radio360 research methodology, and initiating regular regional radio surveys.

“Joan’s understanding and practical knowledge of the radio industry, and especially regional radio and its uniqueness, will be key to Super Radio Network’s further development as the largest privately owned commercial radio network in Australia,” Priala said.

Warner said her initial focus will include recruiting a chief executive officer for the group. “Super Radio Network has an impressive array of stations across a large number of regional areas as well, of course, as Sydney’s 2SM,” she said. “As chair I will be joining George and Despina in looking at the future of the Super Network Group of companies and am very pleased to be a part of that process.”

Founded in 1987 by Bill and Pam Caralis, Super Radio Network operates 50 radio stations across NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory. Since the passing of the founders, the network has been jointly managed by Caralis and Priala.
