Disney+ to appoint new Australian commissioner
The streamer is boosting Australian originals spending as it plans to triple local-language production around the world.

Disney+ is preparing to appoint a new Australian commissioner and increase spending on Australian originals as it moves to triple its local-language output globally.
According to Variety, Jon Wax, Disney Entertainment’s executive vice president of international original television, outlined the plans at the Busan International Film Festival on Wednesday. The tripling target covers worldwide production, rather than Australian output alone.
Australian originals investment
Disney+’s Australian catalogue includes scripted dramas The Clearing, The Artful Dodger and Last Days of the Space Age.
Its local commissions also span documentaries and lifestyle programming, including Matildas: The World at Our Feet, Shipwreck Hunters Australia, Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW and Donna Hay’s Christmas and coastal series.
Southeast Asia return under consideration
Wax also left open the possibility of returning to production in Southeast Asian markets after earlier cutbacks, saying Disney+ was exploring individual titles in Indonesia.
