4BC has announced its new breakfast duo, pairing Dean Miller and Sofie Formica from January 19, after confirming that Peter Fegan has finished up as host of 4BC Breakfast.
The shake-up comes as Nine’s Brisbane talk station looks to strengthen its mornings following the latest radio ratings, which showed the breakfast slot slipping to a 3.6% share (down from 4.1%).
4BC Breakfast with Dean & Sofie will air weekdays from 5:30am to 9:00am, promising listeners a mix of humour, heart and hard news – all with a strong local pulse.
Miller, a proud Brisbane local and former Triple M Brisbane Breakfast anchor, said returning to the airwaves with Formica was both nostalgic and exciting.
“To be back on air in the city I love, with a station that’s part of Brisbane’s DNA, is a real privilege – and to do it with my mate of over 20 years? That’s a gift,” he said.
“Brisbane’s always been home – it’s where I’ve raised my kids, built a life, and now I get to wake up with the city every morning. Sofie and I are both fiercely proud of this place. We want to bring a bit of joy, a bit of cheek, and a whole lot of Brisbane to your mornings.”
Formica’s new challenge and the breakfast brief
Formica moves from her Afternoons slot, which she has helmed solo for four years, to co-host the city’s flagship morning show.
“After four years of hosting Afternoons on 4BC solo, I’m ready to take on a new challenge and thrilled to be sharing the studio with a friend,” she said.
“We know Brisbane breakfast radio is tough, but we’re determined to deliver a show that is real – and it’s Brisbane.”
The duo’s dynamic will lean on their 20-year friendship and opposite personalities.
“Sofie’s up at 5am doing yoga and green smoothies. I’m just trying to find my other sock,” Miller laughed.
“Somehow, it works. She’s the fit one, I’m the fun one. Together, we’re your perfectly balanced breakfast.”

Ratings reality and roster reshuffle
The announcement follows 4BC’s latest ratings, which showed mixed results. While Breakfast slipped, the station’s overall share edged up to 5.3% (from 4.8%), even as cumulative audience dropped to 118,000 (-16,000).
In another recent change, Mornings host Bill McDonald announced his departure just weeks ago. His slot saw a lift from 4.3% to 5.5% in the latest survey – still trailing ABC Brisbane’s 6.7%, but above 4BC’s average 4.8% share.
Nine told Mediaweek that Jason Matthews, a long-time producer at 4BC since October 2024, will fill the Mornings chair until the end of the year.
“A duo that feels like Brisbane”
4BC Station Manager Siobhain McDonnell said Miller and Formica capture the spirit of the city – smart, warm and ready to talk.
“Dean and Sofie are the perfect duo to wake up to in Brisbane,” she said.
“This city is thriving, and our listeners are fiercely proud of their lifestyle. We want 4BC listeners to start their day with the latest news, the best conversation, and a smile on their face. Their 20-year friendship is infectious, and it’s time for Brisbane to be invited in.”
As Nine retools 4BC’s lineup, the focus is squarely on connection and consistency – ensuring the station’s breakfast audience feels heard, entertained and at home.
“We’re not just broadcasting – we’re connecting,” Miller added.
“Whether you’re on the school run, heading to work, or just waking up, we want to be the friendly voice that starts your day right.”
