Screen Producers Australia (SPA) has announced Rhys Nicholson as host of the 24th annual SPA Awards.
The awards will be held as part of SCREEN FOREVER 40, with the ceremony closing out the industry event at The Star.
A familiar face for live events
Nicholson, a multi-award-winning comedian, writer and performer, is known for their sharp wit and commanding stage presence.
Their stand-up special Nice People Nice Things Nice Situations was released globally on Netflix and earned an AACTA Award nomination for Best Stand Up Comedy Special, alongside further nominations recognising both performance and writing.
Strong screen and hosting credentials
Nicholson’s screen credits include roles in The Imperfects and Fisk, as well as appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, Taskmaster Australia, and Thank God You’re Here.
They are also a regular presence across Australian television, appearing on programs including The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, Spicks and Specks, Question Everything and Would I Lie To You.
Beyond performance, Nicholson has built a strong reputation as a host, previously leading major broadcasts including the ARIA Awards, ABC’s New Year’s Eve coverage and the WorldPride Broadcast.

SPA CEO Matthew Deaner said Nicholson brings the right mix of experience and perspective to the role.

The SPA Awards recognise outstanding Australian screen productions, highlighting the work of member businesses across film, television and digital content.
Winners will be announced at the ceremony on Thursday, 30 April at The Star on the Gold Coast.
