CarExpert New Zealand has appointed Mat McNay as Country Manager, as the automotive media platform looks to build on early growth following its launch in February.

McNay, who is based in Auckland, returns to the business after previously serving as Commercial Director – Media in Australia, where he was involved in developing the company’s commercial model and agency and brand relationships.

His appointment comes as CarExpert New Zealand reports strong early traction, with its audience increasing more than tenfold within the first three months of operation.

In the role, McNay will oversee local operations, partnerships and go-to-market strategy, while continuing to build out the company’s team across editorial, video and commercial functions.

The business is continuing to expand its local presence, including recruitment for a Lead Presenter and Car Reviewer role, as it looks to strengthen its content and audience offering.

Cross-market relationships

CarExpert said McNay’s experience across both Australia and New Zealand, along with his established relationships with automotive brands and agencies, will support its cross-market growth strategy.

The New Zealand platform operates as a joint venture between CarExpert.com.au and Trade Me, combining automotive content with local pricing insights and video content to support consumers through the car-buying process.
