This weekend, the Australian box office made $13.29 million, down 33% on last week’s whopping $19.91 million.

The driving force behind these numbers is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Last week on debut it made $14.53 million, over $13 million more than its closest competitor. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, the film is the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Debuting into the top five this week is Operation Mincemeat. Dropping out of the top five this week is Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

#1, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, $7.34 million

The sequel to Doctor Strange averaged $9,478 across 774 screens this weekend and has now made a total of $27.59 million. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film stars Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

#2, Downton Abbey: A New Era, $909,417

There is a major difference in earnings between first and second place this week. In its third week, Downton Abbey: A New Era averaged $2,824 over 322 screens, making a total of $5.65 million.

#3, Operation Mincemeat, $597,321

Operation Mincemeat was a successful British deception operation during WWII to disguise the 1943 Allied invasion of Sicily. The film tells the story of the invasion, and averaged $2,438 over 245 screens.

#4, The Lost City, $595,150

The Lost City has dropped one place to fourth. The film has grossed a total of $14.40 million as it averaged $2,280 across 261 screens this weekend.

#5, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, $559,077

In its seven weeks since release, the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel has made a total of $21.26 million. This weekend it played across 256 screens, averaging $2,184.
