Box Office: Shang-Chi makes it 8 weeks at #1 as it holds off new releases

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has made it eight weeks in a row at #1 as it managed to hold off the two new releases in the top five; The Last Duel and Malignant. The top five was rounded out by top five regulars Free Guy and Paw Patrol: The Movie

The films to drop out of the top five were Honsla Rakh and The Suicide Squad, the latter of which has been in cinemas for 12 weeks.

Overall the Australian made a total of $3.345m which was up 7% on the weekend prior.

#1 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings $1,151,291

Thanks to Sydney theatres giving the Australian box office a needed surge, Shan-Chi has once again broken the $1 million threshold. After eight weeks of release, the film now has made a total of $12.996m after averaging $4,025 on 286 screens this past weekend.

#2 The Last Duel $820,659

The film based on the book of the same name by Eric Jager about the last officially recognized judicial duel fought in France had an average of $2,541 on 323 screens during its first weekend of release.

#3 Malignant $250,879

With Halloween a week away, the horror films hit screens a weekend early. The film directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Akela Cooper averaged $1,287 on 195 screens. 

#4 Free Guy $183,310

The Ryan Reynolds vehicle is the longest-tenured film in the top five at 11 weeks and has managed to extend its run after averaging $1,036 on 177 screens. The film has now made a total of $8.158m.

#5 Paw Patrol: The Movie $144,730

Paw Patrol: The Movie has now spent 6 weeks in the top five and has a total of $2.988m after averaging $787 on 184 screens.
