ARIA Charts: Olivia Rodrigo dominates, Crowded House returns

Singles

American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo notches up her third week at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with Good 4 U. This week, Favorite Crime debuts at #13, making it the eleventh track from Rodrigo’s SOUR album to occupy the ARIA top 50.

The highest rating Australian artist this week is Sydney rapper Masked Wolf with Astronaut In The Ocean which stays steady this week at #9.

Billie Eilish scores the week’s second-highest debut at #18 with Lost Cause. It’s the fourth single to chart from the American’s forthcoming Happier Than Ever album after My Future, Therefore I Am, and Your Power. Happier Than Ever is released on 30 July.

In its third week in the top 50, Vance Joy’s Missing Piece jumps up twelve spots to claim a new peak at #32. The Melbourne singer-songwriter’s last appearance inside the top 40 was with We’re Going Home which hit #16 in March 2018.

Sydney singer-songwriter Dean Lewis makes his first appearance in the ARIA top 50 in two years as he debuts at #48 with Falling Up. The track is the lead single from Lewis’ forthcoming second album, the follow-up to the ARIA Award-winning A Place We Knew which topped the chart in April 2019. Lewis last charted with Stay Awake at #26 in April 2019.

Debuting at #50, American producer Marshmello and pop trio the Jonas Brothers unite for the new single Leave Before You Love Me. It’s the first singles chart entry for the Jonas Brothers since What A Man Gotta Do at #22 in February 2020. Marshmello last charted with his collaboration with Demi Lovato, OK Not to Be OK at #47 in September 2020.

This week marks the 80th week that The Weeknd’s chart topper Blinding Lights has been in the singles chart, coming in this week at #30.

Albums

Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR holds #1 on the ARIA albums chart for a third straight week. The American singer-songwriter has eleven tracks in this week’s singles chart top 50 with Favorite Crime debuting at #13.

Taking out the highest Australian artists entry this week, Crowded House score their ninth top ten album on the ARIA charts as they return with Dreamers Are Waiting at #2. It’s the seventh studio album from the beloved Trans-Tasman band and their first in eleven years. The follow-up to Intriguer which topped the charts in June 2010 features a reconstituted line-up of the band; founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour are joined by Finn’s sons Liam and Elroy, as well as Mitchell Froom (keyboardist and producer of the band’s first three albums). Between albums, Crowded House were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 2016, coinciding with four shows on the Sydney Opera House forecourt.

American punk band Rise Against take out their fifth top ten album with Nowhere Generation at #4. The group’s first album in four years is their ninth studio album. Between 2017’s Wolves and Nowhere Generation, the band released The Ghost Note Symphonies, Vol. 1 in 2018, which reimagined tracks from their catalogue.

Since I Left You, the debut album from Melbourne act The Avalanches, hits the ARIA top ten for the very first time following a reissue to mark its 20th Anniversary, coming in at #5. First hitting the chart at #29 in December 2000, the album earned the group four ARIA Awards in 2001 including Best Dance Release and Producer Of The Year. It hit its previous albums chart peak of #15 in February 2017 following a release on vinyl. The 20th Anniversary Edition includes bonus discs with remixes by the likes of MF Doom, Stereolab, Cornelius, Prince Paul and more. 

Taylor Swift’s evermore jumps back into the top ten for a twelfth week, hitting #8. The move comes following the release of the album on vinyl. Released in December 2020, evermore spent four straight weeks at #1.

British indie trio Wolf Alice grab a new career charts peak as they debut at #9 with Blue Weekend. The follow-up to 2017’s Visions Of A Life is the band’s first top 50 entry since their debut, My Love Is Cool hit #41 in June 2015.

This week marks the 150th week that XXXTentacion‘s ? has been in the top 50.
